Swimming Pool Double Union Ball Valve
This double union ball valve is manufactured by AK, using white PVC, and comprising 2 female solvent ends, both with large union assemblies to allow the valve to be completely dismantled.
This double union ball valve is ideal for all inground & above ground pipe work installations as it offers a very robust control mechanism.
This fitting is commonly used in plant rooms. Available in 1.5" (most domestic installations).
Why is it called a Double Union?
The valves are factory assembled in a certain order which would allow the valve to pop apart if one of the unions was removed. To identify the correct way to install the valve, there is a flow arrow which must to aligned to match the flow of pool water through the pipe.
This correct installation will allow you to if needed remove the union AFTER the valve is closed in the line of flow and dismantle the pipe work after the ball valve. If you install the valve body the wrong way (i.e with the arrow pointing against the flow of water and remove the union end of the pipe work) and the valve is under water pressure the guts of the valve will simply pop out, and you will get very wet feet!
The handle is also a quick visual indication of the valves position, if the handle is running inline with the main valve body, then the valve is open. If the handle is across the valve then the valve is closed. (This assumes the valve stem hasn't snapped!).
We have also listed an engineers secret tool called 'Magic Lube', this is a highly viscous long term silicone lubricant which is perfect for sealing the O-rings and unions of your valve, simply smear onto your o rings for a perfect seal. Can also be used on pump basket O-rings or filter lid O-rings.
Please be aware that swimming pool pipe work is sized from the INSIDE and subsequently LOOKS bigger from the outside (most people wrongly believe their pipe work is 2"). We have placed a picture under the PDF download section showing the 2 common sizes in relation to everyday standard AA & 9V Duracell batteries as an easily referable scale.
